Maya is 16. She lives in Austin. She built a tool for her swim coach who was tracking 22 swimmers' lap times on a clipboard.

At Thanksgiving her aunt asked "so what is it." Maya said:

"It's like, a thing where coaches put in times and it shows which kid is improving and it has charts and you can text the parents."

Her aunt nodded politely and asked about pie.

Maya brought that transcript to Coach Lin the next week. Lin counted breaths. Three. Lin said: cut it to one.
